2015 Methode Sauvage "Old Man / Goose Juice" Bates Ranch Cabernet Franc

Just in time for the Holidays, a reserved ("old man") barrel from the 2015 vintage of Bates Ranch Cabernet Franc. Serve with a chill, and it will be juicy enough for your Christmas Goose, and structured enough for the old man in your life who "only drinks Cabs."

27 months in neutral oak, 20ppm SO2 after completion of malolactic fermentation (0 added at bottling). Despite the neutral oak, the extended elevage offers up some exotic hints of vanilla, spice and savory herbs, and a burly backbone of meat-eating tannin.

Watching the devastating wildfires engulf the Wine Country this fall was such a painful and helpless experience, and getting to be a part of the relief effort in various ways at the new winery and beyond has been an incredibly heartening and healing one. Natural disasters can really put things into perspective, as hard as it may be, and watching a community come together to help aid a natural disaster's victims is a welcome reminder the power of love and charity in the midst of chaos. With the wounds still raw here in my backyard, it's horrifying to see Southern California is now going through the same experience.

It's with all this in mind, and in the spirit of charity and love that I'm offering 100% of the proceeds from this bottling to be donated to the victims of wildfire relief in Northern & Southern California.
