'Wunderkind' is a German word that roughly translates to "excelling at an early age," and that's the concept with this Chenin Blanc bottling. For the 2015 Wunderkind 100% of the fruit was harvested from a vineyard along the Sacramento Delta in Solano County, from fruit planted on well draining sandy soils. Despite heat spikes in the region, the delta funnels in wind, adding a moderated marine climate to the vineyard, and enabling us to pick for acidity without missing out on ripeness. In Loire Valley terms this bottling is Montlouis to our Vista Verde Chenin's Savennières, light on its feet, with bright acidity, and a heavy dose of citrus rind and chamomile on the nose. Highly recommended for summer drinking, but despite its maximum quaffability, this wine will age beautifully.
